Changes to Australia's building regulations, including those governing the performance of commercial buildings, has shifted toward more sustainable commercial development, including the design and function of the building envelope.
Facades now play a key role in sustainable building outcomes.
Great facades are created by rethinking the fundamentals and looking for opportunities to incorporate impactful sustainability measures.
This webinar will look at
They will present and analyse their own facade designs providing detailed case studies (both locally and overseas) where design innovation, engineering integrity, and material selection have optimised building envelope efficiencies.
Troy Donovan, Principal Facade Designer, Prism Facades
Troy Donovan has a broad range of industry experience, having worked in Australia, New Zealand, New York and is a principal at Prism Façades. As a façade designer, he has developed specialist skills in the design of components and custom fabrication, and has extensive international experience in the design, optimization, and construction of high-performing building envelopes. Troy is also an accomplished illustrator, creating detailed system sketches to aid in the design of facade schemes.
David Ritter, Sustainability lead, Grimshaw, ANZ
David is an interdisciplinary thinker having spent over 25 years as a sustainability specialist and leader, weaving a path between architectural and engineering practice. An innovator and natural collaborator, he has a firm appreciation that the existential challenge of climate change and biodiversity emergency can only be met through industry pulling together. Before joining Grimshaw, David founded the Melbourne office of global engineering and sustainability consultancy, Atelier Ten, giving him a deep understanding of the local planning, regulatory, commercial, technical and supply-chain opportunities and challenges for step change toward net zero carbon and regenerative design outcomes.
Marko Damic, Director, Architectus
With over 20 years’ experience gained in both the UK and Australia, Marko has predominantly worked on the design and delivery of significant high and medium rise multi unit residential, commercial, mixed use, infrastructure and education projects.
During Marko’s 11 years at Bates Smart as an Associate Director and lead designer, Marko worked on a number of key projects. He led many major commercial and residential projects through successful design competitions, master plan and design development phases.
Marko’s analytical and inventive approach to design and problem solving ensure a thorough and effective design outcome for clients. This has resulted in projects receiving numerous industry awards, including a number of Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) National Awards for residential and commercial buildings as well as the AIA Sulman Award for Public Buildings.
David West, Technical Director, Inhabit
David is a materials scientist by training, with specialist experience in the performance of materials in buildings. In his role as a Technical Director with Inhabit, he has a particular interest in the extension of life of existing building facades. David has been active in professional organisations in Australia and internationally throughout his career, particularly in the fields of standards development, dimension stone and building conservation. In his spare time, when he’s not contributing to the development of ASTM standards for a range of building materials, or photographing buildings, you might find him building or maintaining mountain bike trails in the Southern Highlands of NSW.
Tom Donald, Director EOC Sydney
Tom leads EOC's Sydney office with over 10 years industry experience as an Architect and Engineer delivering challenging facade designs on multinational projects. Tom originally worked for Eckersley O’Callaghan London before emigrating to Australia and joining Grimshaw Architects in Sydney where he worked on some renowned projects such as the The Woodside Building and South East Light Rail. Tom has technical expertise in complex geometry through a range of techniques including parametric design software and innovative geometry definition strategies. He is passionate about sustainable design and achieving environmental performance through modelling and analysis.
