Can factory-built homes be part a long-term solution to fix our housing shortage and simultaneously support sustainable outcomes?
A report this month (August, 2025) by climate reporter Jess Davis for ABC News asks the question –
“As the Government grapples with how to increase housing supply and ease affordability…. climate change is putting an increasing number of people’s homes at risk. Could prefabricated or modular homes be a possible solution to both crises, with the possibility of building climate-resilient, energy-efficient homes at scale, quickly and cheaply... "
The webinar will examine that possibility.
Presented by John Lucchetti (Collective Engineering), Sean Bull (X Lam), Ed Callanan, (FabPrefab) and Marina Goncalves (CHROFI) the webinar will look at the challenges and draw on each presenter’s collective experience designing and building with Prefab.

John Lucchetti
John is a founding Director of Collective Engineering with over a decade of engineering consulting experience. He is a passionate team and stakeholder manager focused on strong relationships, innovation, and continuous improvement. John is a modular expert and co-author of the Handbook for Modular Construction. He is also a Prefab AUS Director and was recognised in the 2021 Beaton Client Choice Awards as the Best Built & Natural Environment Consultant.
Sean Bull
Sean is the XLam Business Development and Technical Sales Engineer for New South Wales. After graduating in Engineering, Sean spent 10 years working in the Sydney Commercial Construction market developing a sound understanding of engineering and estimating principles. In 2017, came the opportunity to join XLam, in what was a very young and dynamic mass timber market. Sean has seen nearly 100 mass timber projects through to engagement and countless others in various stages of pre-contract involvement and has become one of the leading CLT advisers in the country.
Ed Callanan
Ed is Director of Fabprefab with over 15 years’ experience in the building industry.
Established in 2016, FABPREFAB are an independent, Australian-owned prefab and modular construction company that champion innovation and sustainability. Factory-built dwellings are designed in collaboration with leading architects. Each is made at our custom production facility in Somersby on the NSW Central Coast and crafted using environmentally sustainable materials and the greatest of care, efficiency, and the highest quality control measures.
Marina Goncalves
Marina is an associate at CHROFI with 14 years’ professional experience
Since joining CHROFI in mid 2021, Marina has worked on projects such as the Burwood Urban Park, Arts and Cultural Centre for Burwood City Council and Pittwater Road mixed-use development in Manly. Prior to joining CHROFI, Marina was an Associate at Tribe Studio and Archer Office. Additionally, Marina has worked intermittently as a tutor at the UTS School of Architecture over the past 7 years.
