Session One: Tuesday June 16 - 2pm - 5pm
Session Two: Tuesday June 23 - 2pm -5pm
It is now 105 years since Mies van der Rohe produced his concept for a “glass tower”, withoutany of the technical means to realise his proposal. Now, modern technology allows us to easily replicate the Miesian concept, and the proliferation of glass and steel buildings demonstrates the variety of solutions available to deliver this type of façade.
Within this richness of possibilities comes a series of architectural, technical, environmental and constructional problems that architects and façade engineers need to understand and integrate into their design work.
This two-part Mecca Events webinar will deliver 6 formal CPD points and provide a wealth of useful guidance on a range of topics ranging from glass selection, structural supports, detailing or appearance, NCC Section J compliance, modern rainscreens, fire performance and operational cleaning.
Designing with glass in a sunny country like Australia requires careful thought, both to ensure that people inside the building are comfortable and that the performance of the façade is sustainable. Although glass has high embodied energy per weight, a typical glass façade weighs significantly less than many of the alternatives, is extremely durable when specified and
detailed correctly and can be recycled at end-of-life. New glass treatments and techniques allow glass to reject insolation and insulate effectively. This means that glass facades can be part of a sustainable building solution if designed knowledgeably.
Architects, façade engineers, structural engineers and contractors will all benefit from attending this webinar, both to ensure that they are up to date with the most recent technologies available and familiar with the pitfalls that can befall the unwary.
Designers and building professionals attending this webinar will learn about:
Speakers
Rob Mackellar, TTW
Micheal Lette, Bluescope
Jesse Clarke, Pro Clima
Troy Donovan, Prism Facades
Geoff Hanmer, ARINA
Attendees receive a CPD certificate for 6 points, recordings of both sessions and course notes.
Mecca Events webinars are designed to be engaging, entertaining, and educational. We provide carefully curated information from experts to deliver better outcomes for you and your clients.
