Designing Contemporary Brick Facades

Online

ABOUT THIS EVENT

'"The use of brick allows us to create buildings with a sense of character and texture. They can create new, contemporary spaces that speak the same language as their surrounding neighbours, and extend a building's durability adding a level of robustness that can’t be matched by other construction materials.....we use brick on most of our projects, often experimenting with layout and colour to provide textural interest to facades."

Emily Wombwell, Director Architecture, SJB Sydney

In recent years, there’s been a revival of interest in the use of brick in the facades of larger buildings – commercial, institutional and multi-unit residential. But despite the long history of building with brick, contemporary architectural design and ever-changing statutory requirements (of the NCC) bring a wide array of new challenges to be resolved.

Join our expert panel for a CPD webinar on designing contemporary brick facades.

The webinar looks at:
  • Key drivers for using brick in facades – planning, aesthetics, tradition, availability, sustainability, price …
  • Types of brick systems - solid masonry, cavity walls, brick veneer, brick slips
  • Advantages and disadvantages of the various systems
  • Current (and potential future) market trends with brick facades
  • Industry capability, capacity and constraints
  • Case studies to illustrate principles, including the Huntington project ( Newcastle) by SJB
This webinar will give you a clearer understanding of the opportunities, challenges and constraints associated with using bricks in the facades of larger contemporary buildings.
